Léo Ortiz‘s recovery at Flamengo was marked by a cautious process due to an unprecedented muscle injury, delaying his full availability for Leonardo Jardim.

The Flamengo mid-season break was a period of uncertainty for center-back Léo Ortiz. Integrating into the squad, the defender faced an unexpected challenge: a right thigh injury that prevented him from participating fully in training sessions and friendly matches. His path back to the pitch required meticulous monitoring by the Medical Department.

The situation sparked anticipation among fans, who were eagerly awaiting the return of the number 3. Léo Ortiz‘s absence in the first games following the break raised questions about the complexity of his recovery and the strategy adopted by the coaching staff to reintegrate him into the main squad.

The Injury and Medical Caution

Léo Ortiz‘s muscle injury in his right hamstring occurred on May 31, during a Brazilian Serie A match against Coritiba. This was the first time the athlete had suffered a muscle injury, leading the club’s Medical Department to adopt an extremely careful approach. The Flamengo health team prioritized a deep understanding of his clinical condition before advancing through the stages of rehabilitation.

The Dedicated Recovery Process

Seeking to accelerate his return, Léo Ortiz showed great commitment. He gave up part of his vacation to begin treatment at the Ninho do Urubu training center. Throughout the process, the decision to progress through the recovery phases was shared with the player himself, even with the approval of the Medical Department.

It is important to note that during the period when Flamengo was in the Algarve, Léo Ortiz was not yet fit to play in the friendly matches. However, the defender asked to travel with his teammates and be part of the Rubro-Negro mid-season camp in Portugal.

Gradual Return and Coach’s Decision

After completing all transition phases to the field and being cleared by the Medical Department, the decision to play Léo Ortiz in Flamengo matches became the sole responsibility of Leonardo Jardim. The coach opted not to include the defender for the first match against São Paulo at the Maracanã. In the following game against Internacional in Porto Alegre, Ortiz was part of the squad but remained on the bench.

With Léo Ortiz‘s physical situation now fully resolved, Flamengo prepares for its next challenge. The team returns to the pitch this Sunday (09) to face Vitória in a match for the Brazilian Serie A. The match will take place at 7:30 PM (Brasília time) at the Maracanã. Full coverage of the game, with all the details, will be provided by M360, available on YouTube, the website, and social media. Additionally, the Premiere channel will broadcast the duel on pay-per-view.
