Fluminense has bolstered its youth academy with the arrival of young center-back Aquilles, signed on loan until 2027 after standing out in the Copinha.
Activity in the transfer market remains intense for clubs investing in the future of the sport.
Fluminense officially announced on Tuesday the arrival of promising defender Aquilles, who is just 16 years old.
The player joins the Tricolor das Laranjeiras on a loan deal valid through mid-2027.
The young defender caught the attention of the Rio de Janeiro club’s scouts during the last Copinha.
A native of Jaú, in upstate São Paulo, the player had stints at other notable teams before landing in Rio de Janeiro to join the traditional youth development program at Xerém.
Career leap through the youth setup
Aquilles gained national visibility playing for Esporte Clube Meia-Noite, a team based in Patrocínio Paulista.
During the U-21 tournament, the youngster helped the São Paulo team reach the second stage of the competition, eliminating traditional rivals before being knocked out by eventual champion Cruzeiro.
Prior to this showcase, the defender also went through the youth ranks at Ferroviária and Resende.
The opportunity to wear the Tricolor jersey was met with great emotion by the player and his family, coinciding with his birthday.
Management’s plan is to gradually integrate the center-back into the competitive environment of the training center, aiming for his physical and tactical maturation for future first-team opportunities.
The young center-back stated:
The feeling is one of great happiness. It was my birthday when I found out I was coming here. Everyone cried. Thank God, I am fulfilling a childhood dream. Fluminense is a massive club, so it will be an honor to wear this shirt. I’m proud to be a Moleque de Xerém, and I want to win titles and make my professional debut here.
Next steps and competitive scenario
While the youth setup moves to secure long-term talent, Fluminense’s first team is focused on crucial challenges in the final stretch of the season.
The coaching staff is monitoring the tight schedule in October and November, keeping an eye on the Brazilian Serie A standings and the race for spots in continental tournaments like the Copa Libertadores.
The continuous investment in young prospects reflects the historical philosophy of the Laranjeiras club in developing great athletes for both the national and international stage.
With long-term structured contracts, management seeks to protect its assets and ensure technical stability for upcoming seasons.
