STJD nullifies fake VAR audio in trial for Ba-Vi classic play 508.

A controversy involving the authenticity of evidence marked the trial of the events from the Ba-Vi 508 classic, in the final round of the Brazilian Serie A, at the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD). The prosecution of the Fourth Disciplinary Commission presented a VAR audio that was later recognized as fake and disregarded by auditor Roberto Maldonado.

The incident occurred after the material was shown, when Vitória‘s lawyer, Matheus Moreira Saleão, raised doubts about the audio’s origin. He warned that the source could be a parody profile and had already been associated with cases of fake audios.

Given the objection, Roberto Maldonado admitted he had not previously verified the evidence and agreed to remove it from the process.

It really seems, even by the language, that we should disregard this video.

This episode recalls a similar case that occurred about a month ago, when Internacional‘s legal department used a fake VAR audio in defense of defender Victor Gabriel. At the time, auditor Aline Gonçalves questioned the evidence’s authenticity, leading to discussions about the possibility of postponing the trial.

Consequences of the Ba-Vi 508 Classic

Despite the audio controversy, the STJD trial proceeded and defined punishments for some athletes involved in plays from the classic. Vitória defender Cacá was suspended for two games for attempting to tear Jean Lucas‘s shirt, from Bahia, during a celebration.

Vitória forward Marinho received a one-game suspension converted into a warning for taking the shirt from Jean Lucas‘s hands. The Bahia midfielder, in turn, was acquitted of the charge of provoking the crowd, and the club from Bahia was fined R$ 2,000 for delay.

The plays that generated the charges occurred after Bahia‘s second goal, when Jean Lucas celebrated by showing his shirt towards the Vitória fans, which provoked the reaction of the red-and-black players. The STJD‘s decisions are still subject to appeal and suspensive effect.
