The new Osvaldo Domínguez Dibb Stadium aims to be a venue for the 2030 World Cup.
The history of passion and glory for Olimpia, a three-time Copa Libertadores champion, is about to gain a new chapter. The Paraguayan club has initiated an ambitious project to build a modern arena in Asunción, named Estádio Osvaldo Domínguez Dibb, with an estimated investment of $80 million (approximately R$ 413 million).
The new home, which will replace the iconic old ground, aims to be one of the venues for the highly anticipated 2030 World Cup, an event that will celebrate the centenary of football’s most important tournament.
A Legacy for the Future
The project for the new Estádio Osvaldo Domínguez Dibb, which will honor the club’s former president and the father of the current Conmebol president, Alejandro Domínguez, aims not only to modernize the infrastructure but also to expand the sports complex.
Approximately R$ 83.5 million will be allocated to acquiring adjacent land in the traditional neighborhood of Mariscal López, consolidating the club’s historical presence in the Paraguayan capital. The arena will have a capacity for 46,000 spectators and is scheduled for inauguration in the second half of 2029, meeting all FIFA requirements to host matches of the tournament’s centenary.
The End of an Era, the Beginning of Another
The old Estádio Osvaldo Domínguez Dibb has already undergone demolition, with images released on social media showing the stands in the process of being torn down. This phase, which included the removal of structures and retaining walls, was completed in 2025, allowing the construction of the new arena to proceed on schedule.
Technical responsibility and planning for the works are in the hands of engineer Douglas Nunes, a professional with extensive experience in major projects, including the renovation of the Maracanã for the 2014 World Cup.
The new stadium promises to be a landmark in Paraguay’s sports infrastructure, combining modernity, capacity, and a deep respect for Olimpia‘s history. The expectation is that the arena will not only boost Paraguayan football but also attract international attention with the prospect of hosting matches for the 2030 World Cup.
