New ‘Sportainment’ Boosts Flamengo’s Brand and Business.
Flamengo unveiled an ambitious restructuring plan this Friday (7) at Gávea, focused on strengthening its brand and expanding its business. The major innovation is the adoption of the ‘Sportainment’ concept, a strategic fusion of sports, entertainment, and content production. The initiative, which even includes a modernization of the club’s iconic mascot, the Urubu, aims to intensify its digital presence and connection with its immense red-and-black fanbase.
Four strategic projects were launched to bring this new vision to life. The presentation, led by communications director Flávia da Justa and with the participation of branding agency AnaCouto, revealed that the club seeks inspiration from European giants like Real Madrid and Barcelona. ‘Flamengo is one of Brazil’s biggest brands and has a unique connection with its fanbase,’ highlighted Flávia da Justa. ‘Our challenge was to structure this magnitude into an integrated brand and business model, placing the fan at the center of all decisions and preparing the club for new growth opportunities.’
Digital Hub and URU.HUB: The Future of Interaction
The first major initiative is the Digital Hub, a platform that will initially bring together content produced by the club and its official store. The idea is that, in the future, all of Flamengo’s digital channels will integrate into this new environment, centralizing services and experiences for fans. In parallel, URU.HUB emerges, dedicated to media and content production and management. The club intends not only to expand the creation and distribution of its own materials but also to act as a co-producer, strengthening its position in the media and entertainment market.
Brand Architecture and New Emblems: Strengthened Identity
The reformulation also encompasses a new brand architecture, seeking to more cohesively organize the different points of contact with fans. The new structure aims to simplify communication and reinforce the club’s identity, whose numbers are impressive: 15th most followed club globally on social media, R$ 2.1 billion in revenue, highest revenue in the Americas, and 90 million followers. One of the most notable visual changes is the adoption of three distinct emblems — two for football and one for rowing — and the reformulation of the Urubu as an independent brand.
The Four Pillars of the New Flamengo
The ‘Sportainment’ strategy is based on four fundamental pillars:
- Fan at the center: Focus on creating value at every stage of the fan’s journey, from before to after matches.
- From national club to global brand: Preparing Flamengo for new commercial opportunities and expanding its revenue internationally.
- Defined identity: Establishing clear positioning and modernizing the club’s visual identity.
- Organized portfolio: Unifying Flamengo’s businesses into a single architecture, with clear value propositions for all audiences.
With this integrated vision, Flamengo aims to transform its sporting strength into an even more robust business platform, deepening its bond with the fanbase and expanding its global relevance.
