The 2027 Women’s World Cup promises to be a landmark event, not just for the sport itself, but also for the overall participant experience. FIFA has mandated the provision of free public transport for anyone holding a match ticket.

This measure aims to streamline stadium access and ensure convenience for fans, volunteers, and accredited staff throughout the tournament.

Government Support and Agreements

This requirement is part of the governing body’s specifications, developed in coordination with Brazilian government authorities.

The agreement, known as the “Host City Agreement,” outlines shared responsibilities between the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation) and state and municipal governments to implement these fare-free services.

Host cities will be required to ensure free transport in areas surrounding competition venues, connecting key locations such as airports, transit stations, and hotels.

Monitoring and Additional Amenities

FIFA has maintained a constant dialogue with government agencies through regular meetings to closely monitor the implementation of these and other requirements.

An additional feature for the tournament will be the exemption of ICMS (a Brazilian state tax on goods and services) on operations related to hosting the World Cup—a measure that has already received approval from the National Council of Finance Policy.

Recently, the organization released the match schedule, distributing games across Brazilian host cities, with Neo Química Arena set to host ten matches.

Impact and Next Steps

The initiative for free transportation represents a significant advancement in the organization of major sporting events, prioritizing the public’s experience.

The expectation is that this convenience will encourage attendance and lower costs for those involved, making the 2027 Women’s World Cup even more accessible and memorable.

Distributing matches across different cities is also expected to boost tourism and the local economy in each of the host locations.
