Flamengo has issued an official statement condemning the racist attacks directed at forward Bruno Henrique by River Plate supporters following a match held in Portugal this Friday.

Clube de Regatas do Flamengo has expressed its deep indignation and condemnation of a lamentable episode of racism directed at one of its biggest stars. Forward Bruno Henrique was the target of discriminatory insults from members of the River Plate fanbase during the match held at the Estádio Algarve on Portuguese soil.

The hostile environment, which began during the ninety minutes of play, took an even more serious turn after the final whistle. The Flamengo player became the target of a barrage of racist messages on his social media accounts—a cowardly act that demands an energetic and immediate stance from the entire sports community.

Commitment to fighting racism

The board of Mais Querido emphasized that the fight against prejudice is a non-negotiable pillar within the institution. The club, which includes clear guidelines against discrimination in its Statutes, has been working to modernize its internal policies. In 2025, Flamengo even expanded sanctions for any type of discriminatory practice or encouragement of such acts, maintaining ongoing awareness efforts.

“Racism is a crime and cannot be normalized or treated with tolerance.”

Education and institutional partnerships

Beyond official statements, the Rubro-Negro maintains ongoing projects for racial literacy and human development, especially within its youth academy. The club has strategic partnerships with benchmark organizations such as CUFA (Central Única das Favelas), ID_BR (Instituto Identidades do Brasil), and MUHCAB (Museum of Afro-Brazilian History and Culture).

The club reaffirms its full solidarity with the athlete and states that the institution’s stance will remain firm. Flamengo concludes the statement by reinforcing the necessity for formal complaints, reminding everyone that cases of racism can be reported to law enforcement authorities or through Dial 100, ensuring that respect and human dignity prevail over hatred in stadiums.
