The Brazil national team will head to Australia following the 2026 World Cup. Two high-profile friendly matches have been confirmed on Australian soil for September, signaling the start of a new preparatory cycle.

The Football Australia governing body officially announced this Monday (29) that Brazil will travel across the ocean for two friendly matches shortly after the conclusion of the 2026 tournament. The squad led by Carlo Ancelotti, currently competing on North American pitches, will face the Socceroos in a top-tier international matchup.

Although the CBF is maintaining diplomatic caution and has not yet released an official statement, internal sources confirm the matches are set. The first duel will take place in Townsville on September 25, while Brisbane will host the second match on September 29. It is the type of challenge that keeps the competitive level of the Canarinho at the very top.

The significance of facing Brazil

Australia’s national team head coach, Tony Popovic, did not hide his excitement when discussing the games. For him, testing his strength against Brazil is the necessary fuel for his squad’s tactical and technical growth.

“Brazil is a world-class footballing nation, and we are looking forward to playing them here in Australia. We want to test ourselves consistently against the highest-level opponents moving forward.”

History and current form

The historical record heavily favors the five-time world champions. Since their first encounter in 1988, Brazil has accumulated eight victories in 11 meetings, with only one loss against the Australians. It is a historical dominance that Australia attempts to level with every new match through an increasingly gritty style of play.

Today, however, the focus is on the present. Both national teams remain alive in the 2026 World Cup. While Ancelotti‘s side prepares for a decisive clash against Japan in Houston, the Australians are eyeing their matchup against Egypt in Dallas. These September friendlies will be the consolidation of a project seeking excellence on the global stage.

Brazilian fans, always driven by Determination, Love, and Passion, can already mark their calendars. Regardless of the results in this World Cup, Brazil will continue to seek international stages to reaffirm its greatness and prepare the future of a generation that still has much to achieve wearing the yellow jersey.
