Is Erick Pulgar’s departure from Flamengo looming? Agents reveal an agreement with an Arab club and disagreements with the board.
The atmosphere at Flamengo, already buzzing with the pursuit of signings like Thiago Almada, may heat up even further with the real possibility of losing a key midfield pillar. Chilean defensive midfielder Erick Pulgar has become a source of concern for the club’s board, not only because of his low release clause but also due to advancing negotiations with foreign clubs, as revealed by his representatives.
Low release clause and international interest raise alarms at Ninho do Urubu
With a contract running through the end of 2027, Erick Pulgar’s situation presents a sensitive point for Flamengo: his release clause dropped significantly in July to $4 million (approximately R$ 20.3 million). This price tag, considered affordable in the international market, opens the door for foreign clubs, especially from nations with high purchasing power. Recently, clubs from Saudi Arabia and the United States have shown interest in the player, drawn by his quality and the relatively low cost of his release.
Board seeks to remain calm, but the market never sleeps
Despite a scenario that could indicate an imminent departure, Flamengo’s director of football, José Boto, is trying to remain composed. In an interview with “ESPN,” he assured that the player is happy at the club and that the board is not afraid of losing him.
“It depends on what you consider low. It depends on whether 5 or 6 million euros is a small amount for a 32 or 33-year-old player. It depends a lot on your perspective. We are aware of the situation, we have already spoken with the player, and he is happy here. We don’t fear losing him,”declared Boto. The board’s stance, however, contrasts with information coming from the player’s camp.
Pulgar’s agents reveal agreement and demand better compensation
In statements to the “Ge” portal,Erick Pulgar’s representatives presented a different outlook. According to them, an Arab club has already reached an agreement on salary and signing bonuses with the midfielder, indicating significant progress in the negotiations. The agents argue that the athlete deserves to be valued, and the existence of this prior agreement suggests a desire for a transfer that could challenge Flamengo’s position.
“I greatly respect the director’s position and will not comment on his statements. Everyone has the right to express themselves as they see fit. What I can say is that the player is under contract but also needs to be valued. There are three Saudi Arabian clubs interested, with one of them already having agreed on salary and signing bonuses with the player. Additionally, clubs from the United States have also shown interest and are advancing in talks. Now, we will wait for the next steps. If an offer arises that meets the contract conditions, with the payment of the release clause, the natural path will be the transfer,”they stated.
The statement from Pulgar’s agents puts Flamengo in a delicate position. With the possibility of a deal already in place with another club and the insistence on better compensation, the midfielder’s stay in Rio de Janeiro has become uncertain. The coming days will be crucial in defining the player’s future and the impact of this potential departure on the club’s plans for the season. The fans, who admire Pulgar’s commitment and quality on the pitch, are now anxiously awaiting the outcome of this case.
