A free agent after ending his historic run at Liverpool, Egyptian star Mohamed Salah is now evaluating offers from European giants, MLS clubs, and the Saudi Pro League.

The Mohamed Salah era at Anfield has officially come to an end. Following the conclusion of the 2025/26 season, the forward saw his contract with Liverpool expire, closing the book on a cycle defined by glory that ultimately ended on a sour note. A decline in performance over the past year, combined with a strained relationship with manager Arne Slot, sealed the exit of the Egyptian icon, who is now one of the most sought-after names in the current transfer market.

The 34-year-old had hoped to put on a memorable performance at the World Cup to attract interest from elite European clubs. However, a muscle injury limited his impact, and Egypt was dramatically eliminated by Argentina. Despite that setback, there remains significant buzz around one of the top scorers of the last decade.

Salah’s future: Between Europe, the U.S., and Saudi Arabia

Although Salah’s priority is to extend his career in European football—with Juventus emerging as one of the interested parties—the global landscape offers other doors. In the United States, Sporting Kansas City has surfaced as a strong contender.

“The interest from MLS is real, especially due to the cultural connection the club is looking to establish, as the franchise’s new majority stakeholder, Peter Mallouk, has Egyptian roots,” notes journalist Tom Bogert.

Saudi Arabia prepares a massive offer

In Saudi football, the focus is on heavy investment. Al-Hilal, two-time Asian Champions League winners, and Al-Ahli are the main destinations being discussed. According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Al-Ahli views Mohamed Salah as the ideal replacement for Riyad Mahrez, whose contract was not renewed.

Despite the financial and cultural allure of the Middle East, the forward’s camp is remaining cautious. The player knows that due to his age and recent performance—having recorded seven goals and seven assists in the latest Premier League campaign—staying at the highest level in Europe will require a reassessment of his sporting goals.

The next step in Salah’s career should be decided in the coming weeks, as the player seeks the ideal environment to prove he still has plenty left in the tank for elite football. The sports world waits to see if the star will choose a sporting project in Europe or the lucrative contracts outside the traditional landscape.
