Pedro celebrates squad unity after Flamengo’s Libertadores qualification
Forward Pedro emphasized Flamengo‘s squad strength after the victory over Cruzeiro, which secured the club’s qualification for the Copa Libertadores quarter-finals. Despite not scoring goals, the number 9 was crucial, providing both assists for the rubro-negro goals, demonstrating his importance even without finding the back of the net.
Teamwork on the field
“I’m happy to have played another great game with the whole team. We know the quality that Flamengo‘s squad possesses. We will need everyone; we have the Libertadores and the Brazilian Serie A. The squad is very good,” stated Pedro. He highlighted that all players are ready to contribute, and that the team showed its strength and “greatness” by overcoming a moment of instability in the second half.
Pedro’s tactical role
The forward also celebrated his contribution with assists: “Very happy to help the team, not only with goals but also with assists. Today was a game where I dropped back a lot to pass and make plays in midfield. It gave freedom for the wingers to occupy space, Arrascaeta too… Everything worked out. A great game, not just for me, but for the entire team.”
Hard-fought qualification in the Libertadores
Flamengo secured their spot in the quarter-finals after defeating Cruzeiro 2-1 at the Maracanã, with goals from Arrascaeta and Samuel Lino, both assisted by Pedro. The first leg had ended in a 1-1 draw.
Next fixture
Now, Flamengo‘s focus shifts to the Brazilian Serie A, where they will face Cruzeiro again next Saturday (22), at the Mineirão in Belo Horizonte. The match is for the 24th round of the national competition.
