Title hopes for the 2026 Brazilian Serie A are concentrated, according to a study by the Department of Mathematics at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG).
The analysis, released by the Terra Editorial Team, points to Palmeiras as the main favorite, with an impressive 57.5% chance of winning the trophy.
The study, updated on August 25, 2026, is based on mathematical calculations to predict the season’s outcome.
Palmeiras’ Favoritism
The UFMG projection places the São Paulo-based team in a prominent position, indicating a strong probability that Palmeiras will lift the trophy at the end of the championship.
The research, which also considers Flamengo’s presence as a strong contender, details each club’s chances of becoming champion.
Flamengo in Second Place
Flamengo emerges as the second strongest title candidate, with a 23.8% probability.
The duo of Palmeiras and Flamengo, along with Athletico-PR (13.4%), accounts for over 94% of the total chances of winning, highlighting a scenario of dominance among the three clubs in the tournament.
Lower Contenders
Cruzeiro appears in fourth place with a 2.7% chance of winning the title, followed by Fluminense (1.6%) and Bragantino (0.38%).
Clubs such as Bahia, Atlético-MG, Coritiba, Corinthians, and Botafogo have probabilities below 0.3%.
Meanwhile, Vitória and São Paulo show a 0.001% chance, while Grêmio, Santos, Mirassol, Vasco, Chapecoense, Remo, and Internacional have a 0% probability, according to the projection.
Based on UFMG’s data, the 2026 Brazilian Serie A appears to have its main contenders well-defined, with Palmeiras leading the race, but with Flamengo showing strength to contend for the title until the final matchdays.
The clubs’ evolution throughout the season and head-to-head matches will be crucial in confirming or modifying these projections.
