First Half: Goal and Ecuadorian Pressure
The first half at Estádio Maião was marked by a Mirassol that, despite not displaying great volume of play, knew how to seize its chance. The goal by Eduardo, in the 14th minute, ignited the crowd, following a play initiated by Edson Carioca who exploited a mistake in LDU‘s ball distribution. However, the remainder of the first half was dominated by the visitors.
LDU created several opportunities, with Corozo forcing important saves from goalkeeper Walter and the woodwork saving the Brazilian team on two occasions, with shots from Cornejo and Estrada. Luck was on Mirassol‘s side, as they managed to hold onto the narrow lead until halftime, despite the intense Ecuadorian pressure.
Late Slip Cost the Victory
Mirassol returned for the second half with a more aggressive stance and created good chances with Reinaldo and Edson Carioca. The team from the interior of São Paulo seemed to control the game, looking to extend the scoreline and solidify their advantage. However, after a hydration break, the team reduced its tempo and started making passing errors, opening space for LDU‘s comeback.
In the 36th minute of the second half, a defensive slip by Mirassol proved fatal. The ball fell to Corozo, who deflected it, leaving Michael Strada in an excellent position to finish firmly, equalizing the match for LDU. The late goal frustrated the Brazilian team’s plans, who failed to secure the win at home.
