The 1-1 draw between Flamengo and Cruzeiro at the Mineirão left the decision open, but controversies involving the officiating dominated the post-match debate between the two coaches.

The first leg of the Libertadores round of 16 between Flamengo and Cruzeiro, played last Wednesday (12), was marked by significant tactical balance, but also by strong disputes over the performance of the officiating team.

The draw at the Mineirão reflects the fierce competition for a spot in the next phase, although the post-match period was dominated by Artur Jorge‘s complaints.

The coach of the Minas Gerais team did not hold back his criticism of the Rubro-Negro’s equalizer, questioning the foul that originated the play. From his perspective on the sidelines, the manager did not see any infringement, calling into question the interpretation and clarity of the images analyzed by the referee during the match.

Officiating Controversies and Analyses

Artur Jorge‘s view, however, is contrasted by a technical analysis from the M360 Team. The report indicates that, in reality, Flamengo might have been the most disadvantaged by the whistle.

The incident that generated the most indignation occurred early, at the 11th minute, when a hard tackle by Matheus Henrique on Bruno Henrique — hitting the forward’s shin with his studs — did not result in a red card, nor was it even recommended for review by the VAR.

The M360 Team pointed out:

“The interpretation of the key moments generated unnecessary tension and raised questions about the criteria adopted by the officiating team throughout the 90 minutes at the Mineirão.”

Game Dynamics and Projection for the Maracanã

On the field, the scoreline was built with emotion. Arroyo put Cruzeiro ahead early in the second half, but Flamengo responded with Lucas Paquetá, who capitalized on a rebound after Léo Ortiz’s header hit the crossbar. The 1-1 draw maintained the balance of the contest.

Looking ahead to the second leg, Artur Jorge assured that he will not change his team’s approach. The coach stated his intention to maintain his team’s intensity and competitive identity, even when playing away from home.

The decisive match will take place next Wednesday (19), at 9:30 PM (Brasília time), at the Maracanã, where the fans’ support will be crucial for the Rubro-Negro to secure qualification.
