At the beginning of last year, a potential swap involving Luiz Araújo from Flamengo and Matheus Pereira from Cruzeiro was considered.
Despite meetings to discuss the terms, the negotiations did not move forward.

I didn’t know anything about it; I’m finding out now from you. Before the game, what was said to me and my staff was that the presidents, Bap and Pedrinho, already had an agreement. I’m finding out now. I had their word. But if Flamengo doesn’t want to sell me and wants me to stay, I will work hard and earn my spot. It’s what I’ve always dreamed of. I’ve been here since I was 12, I’m very happy and grateful. If they don’t want to sell me, I will work to earn my place on the field; I am fully capable of helping Filipe Luís and Flamengo for the rest of the season.
Completed Deals Between Rivals
Despite the disputes, some transfers between Flamengo and Cruzeiro have been completed.
Center-back Fabrício Bruno, for instance, was acquired by Cruzeiro from the Rio club for 7 million euros (about R$ 44 million).
Another case was goalkeeper Matheus Cunha, who signed a pre-contract with Cruzeiro in 2025 with a deal running until the end of 2028, although he is currently on loan to Internacional.
