“It’s not about going broke, but you lower your standard of living; there’s no other way.”

The former athlete explained, emphasizing that only a small percentage of players manage to maintain the same financial level after ending their careers.

Controlling Alcohol and Reflections on the Past

One of the most delicate topics addressed in the interview was ‘s relationship with alcohol. He prefers not to label himself an “alcoholic” but admits to having experienced a “lack of control” at specific times, especially during his stint at Internacional.

“When it happened, I had no brakes.”

He confessed, detailing situations where he would drink hours before important commitments, such as travel. This lack of off-field control, according to , led to conflicts with coaches and management, in addition to hindering his performance on the field.

He emphasizes, however, that he learned from his mistakes and now possesses greater discipline.

“Today, thank God, I have that control, but it was very complicated.”

Partnerships and the National Team’s Legacy

During the conversation, also recalled his partnership with Ronaldinho Gaúcho, demystifying the star’s reputation for extravagant parties. For , Ronaldinho is a calm friend whose leisure time consists of moments with friends and music.

He also mentioned Vagner Love as a great life and on-field partner. The Brazil national team and the memorable 7-1 defeat to Germany in the 2014 World Cup were other points discussed.

The former striker expressed the pain of being marked by that traumatic result, despite having won the Confederations Cup in 2013. The excessive confidence of that team, according to him, may have contributed to the unexpected outcome.

The former player, who is looking to re-enter the football market but now off the pitch, concludes the interview with a desire to pass on his lessons to his children, reinforcing the importance of principles and balance in life.

He maintains hope of living another 40 years peacefully and fulfilled.
