Jair Ventura praises Pulgar and exalts Flamengo after Vitória’s defeat
Vitória‘s coach, Jair Ventura, admitted Flamengo‘s superiority in the match that ended with a 2-0 victory for the Rio club this Sunday (09), on matchday 22 of the Brasileirão. In a post-match press conference, Ventura highlighted the quality of the Carioca team and, in particular, the beautiful goal scored by Chilean player Erick Pulgar.
Pulgar’s goal shines in another defeat for Leão
The coach of the Bahia-based club recognized the difficulties imposed by the Gávea team.
Pulgar’s goal, again, more beautiful than the last one. In the first half, we had difficulty playing; in the second half, we improved. Pulgar’s goal set the tone. We conceded a goal on the counter-attack. We played a very evenly matched second half, even with fatigue and absences.
We continue without a win away from home, we must be accountable, and we want to improve. Credit to Flamengo, and to Pulgar, who chose Vitória to hit a shot into the corner.
Flamengo consolidates second place and aims for Libertadores
Flamengo opened the scoring in the first half, in the 14th minute, with a masterpiece from Pulgar, a precise shot from outside the box. The lead was extended in the second half by Bruno Henrique in the 35th minute.
With this result, the Rubro-Negro reaches 42 points and consolidates its second position in the Brasileirão, maintaining pressure in the title race. Vitória, on the other hand, remained with 26 points and in 13th place.
Jair Ventura’s team will have to seek a turnaround at home, while Flamengo now turns its attention to the Libertadores.
The Rubro-Negro’s next challenge will be against Cruzeiro this Wednesday (12), at 9:30 PM, at the Maracanã, in the first leg of the round of 16 in the continental competition.
Pulgar’s strong performance and spectacular goal will surely energize the team for the upcoming decisive matches.
