Getafe has begun talks to sign veteran defender Sergio Ramos, aiming to reunite him with Dani Carvajal in Spanish football starting in January.
The Spanish football transfer market may soon witness the reunion of two Real Madrid legends. After securing the arrival of right-back Dani Carvajal, Getafe is now exploring a formal proposal for veteran center-back Sergio Ramos.
The interest was confirmed by Ángel Torres, the club’s president. The executive revealed that he has been in direct contact with the defender’s camp to understand the parameters for a potential deal.
The club, based in the Madrid metropolitan area, aims to evaluate the financial feasibility and the sporting project required to add the multi-champion to their squad in the upcoming transfer window.
Ongoing negotiations and tactical planning
Speaking to the Spanish radio station RNE, Ángel Torres explained that he spoke with René Ramos, the player’s brother and agent. This initial step served to gauge the requirements for the player’s return to his home country.
Despite the star power involved, the club president noted that the veteran’s arrival is not considered an immediate priority by head coach José Bordalás. Currently, Getafe‘s planning is focused on strengthening the flanks and the attacking line.
We made initial contact to map out the conditions for a potential transfer, leaving the door open for talks in the January window.
As such, the board is keeping lines of communication open while analyzing the economic viability of the project without compromising the urgent tactical needs of the coaching staff.
The player’s status in the transfer market
At 40 years old, Sergio Ramos is currently a free agent after concluding his contract with Mexico’s Monterrey at the end of 2025. The player is evaluating options to continue his successful professional career.
Should the negotiations progress in early 2027, the defender would rekindle his long-standing partnership with Dani Carvajal, who is already signed with the club until June 2027.
The potential arrival of Sergio Ramos would bring a significant boost in leadership and visibility to Getafe. The outcome of the talks will depend on financial alignment and the club’s maneuvers when the market opens in January.
