After having a transfer to Russia blocked due to medical concerns, Flamengo forward Gonzalo Plata has sparked interest from Al Wasl, a club in the United Arab Emirates.
The situation surrounding Gonzalo Plata at Flamengo entered a new chapter this week. Following the collapsed deal with Dynamo Moscow, which vetoed the player’s signing citing a supposed injury, the Ecuadorian is now on the radar of Al Wasl, a traditional club from Dubai. This behind-the-scenes movement comes just as the player is trying to define his professional future.
According to information gathered by the M360 Team, the Arab club has expressed interest in the forward, but has imposed strict conditions. Al Wasl indicated that they would only proceed with negotiations through a loan model, including a mandatory purchase clause tied to contractually established targets.
The medical dispute and the future at the Rubro-Negro
The impasse arose last Sunday (30), when Plata traveled to Russia to finalize his deal with Dynamo Moscow. However, the Russian side blocked the move, citing tendinopathy in the player’s patellar tendon. Flamengo, for its part, vehemently disputes the diagnosis.
The Rio de Janeiro club maintains that it possesses medical reports proving the player’s full physical integrity, ruling out any clinical injury. Despite the interest from the Middle East, the forward remains officially a player for the Mais Querido, and his return to Rio de Janeiro is expected this Sunday (06). Should talks with the Dubai club advance quickly, there is a real possibility that the player may not even return to Brazil.
Absence confirmed for the Brazilian Serie A
All the legal and physical instability surrounding the transfer has directly impacted Leonardo Jardim‘s training schedule. With altered travel logistics and the emotional toll on the athlete, the coaching staff has confirmed that Plata will not be available for the team’s next match.
Flamengo takes the field this Sunday (06) at 4:00 PM (Brasília time) to face Remo at Mangueirão Stadium, in a match valid for the Brazilian Serie A. The club aims to stay focused on the national competition while the board monitors offers for its assets in the international transfer market. The expectation is that, following the duel in Pará, the Ecuadorian’s future will be sealed in the coming weeks.
