Ecuador’s Independiente del Valle secured their spot after defeating Colombia’s Tolima with a 4-1 aggregate score. With the result solidified in Quito, the Rubro-Negro now knows they have an international trip ahead before deciding the path to the semifinals at home.
The Ecuadorian side earned their qualification with authority. After winning the first leg 1-0, Del Valle dominated the return match, winning 3-1. Goals from Romero, Gonzales, and Matías Perello cemented the home side’s superiority, despite a consolation goal from Junior Hernandez. Flamengo, holders of the best overall record in the competition, will play the first leg away, bringing the deciding match to the Maracanã.

The first clash between the two teams is scheduled for September 9. The winner of this tie will face either Estudiantes or Corinthians in the semifinals.
