Conmebol has announced a visual update for the badges honoring clubs that have won the Copa Libertadores. The new patches, revealed this Monday (July 27), promise a more personalized look, replacing the traditional gold design that merely indicated the number of titles. Now, each badge incorporates the teams’ official colors and highlights the years when continental glory was achieved.
For Cruzeiro, which holds the status of a two-time Libertadores champion, the new patch will be an additional source of pride. The ‘celeste’ seal will prominently display the years 1976 and 1997, the dates of the ‘Raposa’s’ historic victories. The debut of this new symbol on the jersey sleeve is set for a high-stakes clash in the competition’s Round of 16.
The stage for the unveiling of the unprecedented patch will be a South American classic against Flamengo. The first leg of this anticipated series will take place on August 12, a Wednesday, at 9:30 PM, at the Mineirão stadium in Belo Horizonte. The return match, which will determine which team advances in the pursuit of the title, will be played exactly one week later at the legendary Maracanã stadium in Rio de Janeiro.
