Samuel Lino reveals “bad mood” in the Flamengo locker room after a comeback loss to Cruzeiro in the Brazilian Serie A, citing a lack of concentration.

Flamengo‘s locker room is experiencing a delicate moment. Following the 2-1 comeback defeat to Cruzeiro, in a match valid for the 24th round of the 2026 Brazilian Championship, forward Samuel Lino did not hesitate to express the mood of frustration among the players.

The result, which prevented the club from reaching the top of the standings, generated deep reflections on the team’s performance.

Lino‘s confession points to a critical internal analysis, where the team acknowledges its own failures.

The player’s honesty raises a red flag about the need for adjustments and greater focus for the upcoming challenges in the Brazilian Serie A.

Samuel Lino’s Post-Match Analysis

Immediately after the final whistle at Mineirão, Samuel Lino detailed the atmosphere in the locker room. The forward was emphatic in attributing the comeback suffered to issues with concentration and collective performance, rather than exclusively to the opponent’s merits.

“The mood in the locker room is very bad, because we know we lost more due to our own fault, due to a lack of concentration. Not that we are the sole culprits.”

He compared the match to a previous game where Flamengo managed to turn the situation around in the second half, something that did not happen against Cruzeiro.

“The mood is bad because we know we lost this game much more due to our fault, due to our lack of concentration. In Wednesday’s game, we managed to turn it around in the second half. Cruzeiro came at us, we managed to bounce back and got back into the game.”

The player concluded that, this time, the team couldn’t react:

“Today was a bit more difficult; we couldn’t bounce back. We equalized a bit at the end, but today the credit goes to them, and on our part, we need to improve on that detail.”

Period Without Games: An Opportunity for Adjustments

With their early elimination from the Copa do Brasil, Flamengo will have a week free of commitments, a period that Samuel Lino considers crucial.

The break will allow coach Leonardo Jardim and his technical staff to identify and correct the displayed flaws.

“We also had a previous period where we had ten days to fix some details, and these days now will also be good for fixing some details before the Botafogo game; this is an important week for us.”

This timeframe will be fundamental for the team to seek physical and mental recovery, aiming for the rest of the national football season.

The Clash Against Cruzeiro

The match at Mineirão started favorably for Flamengo, who dominated the first half. In the 22nd minute, Pedro opened the scoring, and the team had other clear chances with Carrascal and Pedro himself to extend their lead.

However, the lack of effectiveness proved costly. In the second half, the scenario changed. Cruzeiro grew into the game and equalized with Arroyo in the tenth minute.

In the final moments, Matheus Pereira sealed the comeback, leaving Flamengo without a reaction and highlighting the importance of maintaining intensity and concentration for the full 90 minutes.

Impact of Fatigue and Crucial Details

Samuel Lino also addressed fatigue as a factor, especially after a sequence of intense games. He emphasized that the high quality of opponents in Brazilian football demands a constant level of energy and attention.

“Playing against a team that is also one of the best in Brazil, with quality players, it’s a very intense game where both teams want to play, want to have the ball, want the ball to be in play, so it wears you down, there’s fatigue during the game.”

“In this second half, we, in the first 15 minutes, showed a bit of that fatigue, which we rotated to give our team a bit more freshness. We had three games against a very intense team, as we are too. So, sometimes this weariness comes in the second half, and mental fatigue also sets in. And also, as we commented in the locker room, a bit of lack of concentration on the details made us lose this game.”

Next Challenge: Classic Against Botafogo

With 45 points, Flamengo occupies second position in the Brazilian Serie A standings. The next fixture will be a Rio de Janeiro classic against Botafogo, on Sunday (30), at 4 PM (Brasília time), at Maracanã, for the 25th round.

This game will be crucial for Leonardo Jardim‘s team in their pursuit of recovery and maintaining their title aspirations.
