Flamengo Board Approves Academy Prospect’s Departure to Serie B Club
Flamengo is close to negotiating the departure of another young talent from its academy. Rayan Lucas, a 21-year-old midfielder who recently returned from a loan spell with Sporting of Portugal, could be packing his bags to play for Athletic, a club that competes in the Brazilian Serie B in 2026.
Proposal Accepted and Negotiation Details
Flamengo‘s board has already approved the proposal received from Athletic. The loan of Rayan Lucas would be with the goal of the player getting more minutes on the field and developing in the national competition. The final decision, however, still depends on the response from the player’s representatives, who are analyzing the terms of the agreement. The information was confirmed by journalist Venê Casagrande.
Athletic’s Situation and Rayan Lucas’s Position
Athletic, currently in 11th place in Serie B with 28 points from 20 games, is looking to strengthen its squad for the season. For Rayan Lucas, the transfer represents an opportunity to gain playing experience after a quiet return to Flamengo. Despite having a contract with Rubro-Negro until 2028 and a high termination clause, the youngster has not been able to establish himself under Leonardo Jardim, having had limited appearances in recent friendly matches. The competition in Flamengo’s midfield, with names like Erick Pulgar and Evertton Araújo, also makes it difficult for him to establish himself in the main squad.
