Manchester United secures Andrey Santos for $42 million, details of the negotiation revealed!
English football is set to welcome another Brazilian talent. Manchester United has reached an agreement with Chelsea for the signing of the young defensive midfielder Andrey Santos. At 22 years old, the player arrives at Old Trafford with the mission to fill the void left by his compatriot Casemiro, who ended his tenure with the Red Devils to move to Inter Miami in MLS.
Deal Details and Figures
Sources close to the negotiation confirm to UOL that, although there hasn’t been an official announcement yet, both parties are optimistic about the deal’s conclusion without unforeseen issues. The transaction involves a considerable amount: 48 million pounds sterling for Chelsea, with an additional 2 million pounds bonus tied to the number of games the player participates in. In total, the sum approaches R$344 million (approximately $42 million). The confirmation of these figures, initially reported by The Athletic and The New York Times, solidifies the magnitude of this transfer.
Andrey Santos’s Career Path
Andrey Santos arrived in London in August 2023, but his initial journey at Chelsea was marked by loan spells. After a period with limited opportunities at Nottingham Forest, the midfielder sought playing time at Strasbourg, a satellite club of the Blues in France. It was in French football that the Brazilian showcased his potential, standing out with 15 goals and four assists over one and a half seasons.
Despite returning to Chelsea to compete in the Club World Cup, Andrey was unable to establish himself as a starter in the main squad. This lack of consistent playing time unfortunately impacted his chances of being called up for the World Cup, even though he actively participated in the Brazil national team’s cycle. Now, at Manchester United, the midfielder will have the opportunity to take a new and promising step in his career.
