Frustrated Meeting: Calleri Further from São Paulo After ‘Disrespectful’ Offer

Jonathan Calleri‘s future at São Paulo Futebol Clube took a dramatic turn after a new meeting between the club’s board and the striker’s staff on Monday (6). The meeting, which aimed to finalize the contract renewal for the Argentine, whose current deal expires in December, ended without an agreement and with an atmosphere described as “very negative” behind the scenes. Hopes that further dialogue could bring the sides closer were dashed, intensifying uncertainty about the No. 9’s stay.

Two Official Offers on the Table

Calleri‘s staff has already presented the Tricolor Paulista with two official pre-contract offers from foreign clubs: Orlando City from the United States and Monterrey from Mexico. Both offers feature financial terms superior to what São Paulo has been able to present so far. In parallel with contract negotiations, the São Paulo club is also trying to settle an estimated R$6 million debt with the player, related to image rights and unpaid bonuses since 2024.

Strained Relations and Inferior Offer Worsen Situation

The negotiation suffered a significant setback when São Paulo, after the rejection of its initial offer, presented a new proposal to Calleri‘s staff on Monday. Surprisingly, the figures offered were lower than the previous proposal, which the striker had already turned down. This move was characterized by people close to the player as “disrespectful,” considerably increasing the strain in the renewal process.

Given this scenario, Calleri‘s staff has begun to more openly consider other offers on the market. Despite the impasse, the striker still wishes to remain at the Morumbi. However, he believes the club needs to make a greater financial effort, both concerning new contractual conditions and the resolution of pending payments. Calleri‘s stay at São Paulo for upcoming seasons has now become significantly more difficult and is considered unlikely. São Paulo fans are anxiously following the next chapters of this saga.
