Flamengo has initiated preliminary talks to extend the contract of goalkeeper Agustín Rossi, an undisputed starter and key piece in the crucial final stretch of the season.
Although the competitive schedule still requires full focus from clubs, the Rubro-Negro board is already making moves behind the scenes for future planning.
The central topic involves rewarding and extending the deal of Argentine goalkeeper Agustín Rossi, one of the defensive pillars of the team led by head coach Leonardo Jardim.
Even though his current contract is valid until the end of 2027, recent performances and the player’s tactical importance prompted initial contact between Flamengo executives and the player’s staff.
The groundwork for a future contract extension began to be discussed while the squad was traveling for a Copa Libertadores fixture.
Behind-the-scenes meetings and desire to stay
The goalkeeper’s stay gained momentum after decisive performances in derbies and international matches, overcoming periods of instability.
The player’s agent, Marcelo Valeri, took advantage of the team’s camp to meet with Flamengo‘s board and align initial impressions regarding the renewal scenario.
Publicly, the keeper shows calm regarding his future and reinforces his commitment to the Rio de Janeiro club’s sporting goals, prioritizing performance on the pitch before finalizing any definitive agreement.
Agustín Rossi stated:
Right now my mind is on this final stretch of the season. Obviously that desire is always there, I have a contract until the end of 2027. For now, some conversations have taken place, but just brief, nothing beyond what had been discussed. For now, keeping my head in the moment, trying to do my best. By winning things and being important in this final stretch of the season, those things happen. I’m going to focus on the sporting side, which is what’s important right now
