Corinthians is facing a severe financial crisis which, combined with a transfer ban and a short roster, is compromising the team’s performance in this season’s competitions.

The situation Corinthians is experiencing behind the scenes directly impacts their performance on the field. With a block on registering new players in effect since May 21, the São Paulo club faces growing difficulties in maintaining competitiveness while dealing with debts totaling R$ 21.5 million. The absence of reinforcements in the last transfer window highlighted the fragility of a squad that, weakened by significant injuries, lost momentum in the Brazilian Serie A.

For the M360 Team, the scenario calls for extreme caution. In addition to the restrictions imposed by FIFA, the club is still struggling to regularize salaries and image rights for the current squad. According to executive football director, Marcelo Paz, the absolute priority is to resolve financial outstanding issues before considering any market moves, leaving sporting planning secondary to economic urgency.

Operational Difficulties and Lean Squad

The limitation of options in the squad has been costly for Timão. The inability to replace key players, such as striker Yuri Alberto during injury periods, has led to sharp drops in performance. Executive Marcelo Paz admits that the lack of alternatives on the bench prevents maintaining the technical level required to be in the upper half of the standings.

“The complicated point is the short roster. When you lose players due to injury and cannot replace them, you face difficulties during the game. If Zakaria, Kayke, and Yuri had been available, our points tally would certainly be higher, and we wouldn’t be discussing, at this moment, a series of defeats.”

The Cost of the “Bitter Medicine”

The current management argues that the moment demands austerity, even if it means sacrificing immediate results. After settling approximately R$ 200 million in debts this year, the club maintains that cost containment — avoiding long contracts and astronomical salaries — is the only path to long-term survival.

“The medicine is bitter. Not signing players, not entering long contracts, not making financial follies. This, at times, impacts performance on the field. It is very difficult to financially restructure and deliver such great performance.”

Impact of Eliminations

The crisis cycle is self-reinforcing. Recent eliminations from the Copa do Brasil and Libertadores deprived Corinthians of crucial revenue from ticket sales and prize money, resources that would be vital to ease the cash flow. Without reaching the R$ 150 million target in player sales, the club is now seeking alternatives to balance its books, while fans await a decision on when the institution will regain investment capacity. The near future points to a period of transition, where financial stability will finally need to find balance with the club’s winning tradition.
