Peruvian government celebrates Flamengo’s new ‘Urubu de Lima’ jersey in official post.
The Peruvian Ministry of Culture used its official page to praise Flamengo’s new jersey, the “Urubu de Lima.” The piece, which pays tribute to the country and its rich cultural heritage, especially the Nazca Lines, has become a symbol of integration between Brazil and Peru through sports.
The ‘Manto da Nação‘ project, which originated the jersey, demonstrated the strength of the red-and-black fanbase, with over 8,000 designs submitted by fans.
Cultural and Sporting Recognition
Flamengo’s initiative to create a jersey that references the 2019 and 2025 Libertadores finals, both hosted in Lima, was widely recognized by the Peruvian government.
In a highlighted post, the Ministry of Culture emphasized the cultural importance of the design, showing how football can be a vehicle for valuing world heritage sites like the Nazca Lines:
Our historical legacy unites cultures through sport!
The government’s publication also shared the club’s message celebrating:
ALL FINALS IN LIMA WILL BE RED-AND-BLACK!
Success of the ‘Manto da Nação’ Project
‘Manto da Nação‘ proved to be an absolute success by engaging fans in the creation of a uniform that represents not only the club but also a link to the history and culture of a country that has become the stage for historic moments for Flamengo.
The winning jersey, designed by Marcelo Gluz, is inspired by the Nazca geoglyphs, transforming the club’s symbol, the urubu (vulture), into a visual reference to these monumental works.
Journalist Pedro Paulo Catonho points out that this cultural connection tends to further strengthen Peruvians’ passion for Flamengo, consolidating the jersey as a coveted item in both Brazil and Peru.
