Coach Leonardo Jardim celebrated Erick Pulgar’s contract extension with Flamengo, emphasizing the Chilean midfielder’s fundamental role in the red-and-black team’s tactical structure.
The officialization of midfielder Erick Pulgar‘s contract renewal with Flamengo brought relief and a sign of continuity to the fans. The new agreement, extended until December 2029, was announced last Wednesday (02), shortly before the match against Mirassol at the Maracanã. The board’s decision reaffirms confidence in the number 5 player, who has established himself as a balancing piece in the midfield.
On the field, the player quickly demonstrated why his permanence was a priority. Playing alongside Jorginho, the Chilean combined his usual intensity in physical duels with technical precision in build-up play. It was from Pulgar‘s feet that the opening goal originated, in a moment of vision that culminated in Carrascal‘s finish, highlighting his importance in the offensive transition.
Recognition from the Coaching Staff
After the victory, coach Leonardo Jardim did not spare praise for the player. For the coach, the renewal was a strategic move that ensures the maintenance of an important pillar for the squad.
Erick is a player we have been working with. More than me renewing the player, it was the club. The club is responsible for this. I think the renewal was an agreement between both parties and allowed Pulgar to continue with us, because he is an important player within the team’s structure, due to his quality, his intensity, and his character.
Concerns Over Physical Condition
Despite the celebration, the moment calls for caution at the CT Ninho do Urubu. Shortly after his decisive participation in the goal, Pulgar suffered a collision with an opponent and experienced pain in his right thigh, forcing his substitution in the first half of the match. The player’s situation will be re-evaluated by Flamengo’s medical team this Friday (04), with exams to determine if he will be available for the team’s upcoming commitments this season.
Flamengo has already turned its focus to the next challenge in the Brazilian Serie A. The team travels to Belém, where they will face Remo this Sunday (06) at 4 PM (Brasília time) at the Estádio Mangueirão. The expectation is that, with the squad’s structure strengthened by the renewal, the team will maintain its competitive rhythm.
