Braz points to Barcelona and calls for caution in signings
Flamengo is active in the transfer market to strengthen their squad for the 2026 season. In an interview with Basticast 365, former vice president Marcos Braz used the case of Barcelona as a warning for the Rio de Janeiro-based club.
He emphasized the dangers of high-level investments without proper planning, recalling that the Spanish club faced serious financial difficulties after big-money signings such as Dembélé, Griezmann, and Coutinho.
Braz highlighted that a mistake in two or three high-value transactions could cost Flamengo millions of dollars, even with the club’s financial growth.
He underscored the importance of responsibility in managing investments to avoid future financial losses.
Priorities and caution in the transfer market
Currently, Flamengo is looking to sign three new players. The name of Thiago Almada, formerly of Botafogo, is one of the most talked about, but the club is facing competition from River Plate.
In addition to him, the board aims to bring in a winger and a young center-forward to join the team led by Leonardo Jardim.
The club is adopting a cautious financial stance, especially after having invested a significant R$ 430 million in the first transfer window of 2026.
This prudence is also defended by director of football José Boto, who guarantees that Flamengo will not participate in bidding wars and will only close deals that are within the club’s financial and strategic conditions, prioritizing economic sustainability.
