Aiming to fight for a spot in Leonardo Jardim’s starting lineup, midfielder Saúl rejected an offer from América-MEX and confirmed his stay at Flamengo.
The second transfer window of 2026 officially closed last Friday (11), but the behind-the-scenes activity at Flamengo remained busy until the final moments. Amidst the transfer market activity, the Rio de Janeiro club received an offer from América-MEX for the loan of midfielder Saúl. The Mexican club’s proposal was for a nine-month loan, with the player to be ceded until June 2027.
However, the negotiation did not progress. Both the club’s board and the player himself declined the invitation. The decision to remain in Rio de Janeiro reflects the Spanish player’s desire to consolidate his spot under manager Leonardo Jardim.
Focus on earning a spot in the squad
Even with strong competition in Flamengo‘s midfield, Saúl chose to remain focused on his development at the club. The player believes he can earn more minutes on the field and become a key player in the Portuguese coach’s tactical scheme throughout the season.
Since Leonardo Jardim‘s arrival in March 2026, the player has participated in 12 matches, including a friendly against River Plate. With a contract valid until December 2028, the midfielder shows he is fully integrated into the club’s long-term plans.

Signed on a free transfer in July 2025, shortly after his departure from Atlético de Madrid, Saúl has already accumulated 35 appearances and three assists in the Flamengo jersey. Flamengo returns to the field this Sunday (13) to face Corinthians, in a match valid for the 27th round of the Brazilian Serie A.
