A New Chapter in the Middle East

The official announcement of Samir‘s arrival at Al-Dhafra was made this Friday (31) via the club’s social media channels. The team issued a statement welcoming the player and expressing optimism for his time with the club.

The Al-Dhafra club welcomes the arrival of Brazilian center-back Samir Caetano de Souza and wishes him success in his journey with the team.

Before joining Al-Dhafra, Samir had been playing for Al-Najmah in Saudi Arabia since August 2025. His international experience also includes stints with Mexican clubs such as Tigres and Mazatlán, following his initial time in Europe.

Samir’s Career at Flamengo

Samir‘s professional journey began at Flamengo, where he arrived in 2011 to join the U-20 team after transferring from Audax. Promoted to the senior squad in 2013, the 31-year-old center-back won major titles for the club, including a Copa do Brasil and a Campeonato Carioca.

In total, Samir wore the iconic jersey in 86 matches, scoring three goals and providing one assist. His performances for Flamengo caught the attention of European clubs, culminating in his sale to Udinese in Italy at the end of 2015, in a deal worth 4 million euros.

Flamengo’s Priorities in the Market

Parallel to the movements of their former players, Flamengo remains active in the current transfer market window, aiming to sign three players to strengthen the squad. One name on the radar is Thiago Almada, a midfielder who previously played for Botafogo and currently represents Atlético de Madrid (ESP). The Rubro-Negro already has advanced talks with the Argentine.

The Rio de Janeiro club’s management is also looking to reinforce the wing and center-forward positions. The strategy is to bring in a young attacker to play alongside Pedro, who remains an undisputed starter for the team led by Leonardo Jardim, ensuring depth and options for the roster.

Samir‘s transfer to Al-Dhafra reflects the constant and globalized dynamics of the transfer market. While the Brazilian center-back begins a new challenge in the United Arab Emirates, Flamengo, his formative club, remains focused on its own priorities, seeking strategic pieces to solidify its 2026 squad and remain competitive across all fronts.
