Erick Pulgar sets a deadline for Flamengo to finalize his contract renewal; the release clause remains a point of concern in negotiations.
Erick Pulgar sets final deadline for Flamengo to define renewal
The future of Erick Pulgar at Flamengo is reaching a decisive moment. The Chilean midfielder, a key piece in the Rubro-Negro tactical setup, has set the end of next week as the deadline for the Rio club’s board to respond to his counter-proposal and finalize contract negotiations. Despite receiving inquiries from European clubs, the player has publicly expressed his preference to stay at the Mais Querido, where he is fully settled and shares a strong bond with the fans.
The athlete’s situation has remained uncertain since he submitted a new proposal in response to Flamengo‘s initial offer. According to reports from ‘GE’, Pulgar‘s staff understands that the board is looking for the best solution for both parties, but they believe the confirmation of the deal cannot be postponed any longer. The sense of urgency is growing as the transfer market progresses.
Release Clause and History with the Club
One of the focal points in these negotiations is Erick Pulgar‘s release clause. In July, the buyout value dropped to 4 million euros, approximately 23 million Brazilian reais, making him a more accessible target for other clubs. This reduction adds pressure on Flamengo to reach an agreement quickly and prevent the departure of one of its cornerstones.
The midfielder arrived at Flamengo in July 2022 from Fiorentina (Italy) in a deal worth 2.8 million euros. Since then, he has accumulated 161 appearances, six goals, and nine assists, in addition to a series of important titles, including two Copa do Brasil trophies, two Libertadores titles, one Brazilian Serie A title, one Supercopa do Brasil, and three Campeonato Carioca titles. His current contract was renewed in March 2025, extending until the end of 2027.
Perspectives and Upcoming Challenges
Pulgar‘s importance to the team is undeniable, as he is considered a “key piece” of the squad. As journalist Davi Esteves from Coluna do Fla noted:
“Pulgar received a salary raise and a contract extension about a year and a half ago. It is strange that the Chilean wants to review his deal again after such a short time. Despite this, the midfielder is one of the ‘key pieces’ in Leonardo Jardim’s team, and because of that, I believe Flamengo must make an effort to keep the player on the roster.”
While negotiations continue behind the scenes, Erick Pulgar remains available to manager Leonardo Jardim. Flamengo‘s next commitment is this Sunday (16) against Mirassol for the 23rd round of the Brazilian Serie A, with kickoff scheduled for 6:30 PM (Brasília time) at Maião. The expectation is that, regardless of the result on the pitch, the midfielder’s future will be sealed in the coming days.
