European giants PSG and Juventus are competing to sign Japanese goalkeeper Zion Suzuki, a standout performer at the 2026 World Cup.

The rise of goalkeeper Zion Suzuki, the starter for the Japan national team, is capturing the attention of major European clubs. Following strong performances in the 2026 World Cup, the Parma shot-stopper has appeared on the radar of Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus. What sets Suzuki apart is his ability with the ball at his feet, a trait increasingly valued in modern football.

Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti admires the goalkeeper’s composure under pressure. In a landscape defined by intense man-marking, a goalkeeper’s ability to act as an outfield player, managing opponent pressure and executing precise passes, is seen as fundamental to tactical success.

PSG holds advantage in negotiations

Despite interest from Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain appears to be in the lead in the race to sign Zion Suzuki. According to reports from the newspaper “Gazzetta dello Sport,” negotiations still involve various details to be navigated by both clubs to convince the player.

Even with Parma asking for roughly 30 million euros (approximately 174 million BRL), Juventus remains optimistic about investing in the goalkeeper. The Italian club has been in constant contact with the player’s representatives and is looking to maintain a strong relationship with Parma to facilitate the transfer.

Projects and salaries at stake

One of the major attractions Juventus can offer Suzuki is the guarantee of a starting spot. At PSG, the situation is less clear, as the Parisian club is looking for a promising goalkeeper to develop, possibly as an initial backup or for a loan move.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that PSG has already presented an offer of 33 million euros (about 192 million BRL) and a future project based on the development of Lucas Chevalier. Meanwhile, Juventus considers Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez a distant option due to high salary costs, forcing them to pursue a Plan B for the position.

The battle for the goalkeeper spot intensifies with Tottenham’s Guglielmo Vicario also being considered by Juventus. However, the Italian club is looking to avoid a bidding war for Zion Suzuki. Parma, for its part, is already preparing for the potential departure of its goalkeeper, with plans to promote young Giovanni Daffara to the first team.
