Premier League and Serie A Debut with Extensive Coverage on ESPN and Disney+
The excitement of European football is back. The 2026/27 season of the Premier League and Serie A kicked off this Friday (21) with guaranteed broadcasts on ESPN and Disney+. A total of 760 games will be shown live throughout the competition, divided equally between the English Championship and the Italian Championship, with 380 matches from each league.
The Premier League’s opening match took place at the Emirates Stadium in London, featuring a clash between Arsenal and Coventry City. Meanwhile, the first round of Serie A was held at the Giuseppe Meazza, with the game between Inter Milan and Monza.
Arsenal Dominates and Wins Premier League Opener
The first match of the 2026/2027 Premier League season saw Arsenal impose their rhythm against Coventry City, securing a convincing 3-0 victory. The contest, held at the Emirates Stadium, marked the beginning of the Gunners‘ quest for back-to-back titles.
The first goal of the match came in the first half. After a pressure play on the wing, Kai Havertz received a low pass in the box and finished first-time to open the scoring. Shortly after, Bukayo Saka extended the lead, pouncing on a rebound from the opposing goalkeeper.
In the second half, Arsenal maintained control of the game and sealed the victory with a goal from Odegaard. Despite a not-so-precise shot, the Coventry goalkeeper allowed the ball to go in, setting the final score at 3-0. Coventry, on the other hand, rarely threatened the goal defended by Raya, demonstrating the London team’s superiority.

In addition to the complete broadcast of 380 games from each league on pay-TV and streaming, ESPN plans to offer one game per round from each league for free on its YouTube channel.
The advertising campaign for this season, titled “Happy to be Back,” features forward Estêvão and draws a parallel between the return of the European leagues and the player’s recovery from an injury.
