Palmeiras makes targeted changes to its squad list for the Libertadores Round of 16.
Palmeiras has submitted its updated roster to CONMEBOL for the Copa Libertadores Round of 16. The changes, intended to strengthen the squad for the start of the knockout stage, include five new additions and several notable departures. The “Verdão” will kick off this decisive phase against Cerro Porteño in a match scheduled for Wednesday (12) at 7:00 PM (BRT) at Nilton Santos Stadium.
The São Paulo-based club is looking to build on its campaign in pursuit of the continental title. The board, in conjunction with the coaching staff, opted for strategic adjustments to the list to optimize options for manager Abel Ferreira. There is an expectation that these new additions will contribute significantly in the upcoming matches of the competition.
New faces on the Libertadores roster
Among the players included in the Libertadores squad are defender Barboza, goalkeeper Kaique, who returned from loan, and midfielder Rafael Coutinho. Additionally, forwards Felipe Teresa and Miguel Bilong—the latter arriving from Cameroon—were also registered and join the group competing in the Round of 16.
Departures and squad adjustments
On the other hand, there were some subtractions from the Palmeiras list. Goalkeepers Aranha and Luiz Sá are no longer on the roster. Midfielder Figueiredo has been loaned to Ceará, while forwards Juliano and Luighi have also left the club, having been transferred to Bragantino and New York City, respectively. These moves reflect the club’s current squad management policy.
Next challenge
Palmeiras’ first test in this knockout phase will be against Cerro Porteño. The return leg against the Paraguayan side is scheduled for August 19 in Asunción. The fans hope the changes made to the registration list will bolster the team as they strive to meet their goals in the tournament.
