Fred has been cleared by the CBF and could make his long-awaited debut for Atlético this Saturday against Internacional in the Campeonato Brasileiro.
The anticipation surrounding Fred‘s debut for Atlético has reached a new level. The midfielder, considered the Brazilian club’s main signing for the season, had his name officially registered in the Daily Information Bulletin (BID) of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) this Thursday, August 20. This bureaucratic step concludes the waiting period and allows the player to take the field.
With the regularization complete, Atlético’s fans could see Fred in action as early as this weekend. The Galo‘s first challenge with their new number 7 could be against Internacional on Saturday (8/22), at 6:30 PM, at the Estádio Beira-Rio in Porto Alegre. The match is part of the 24th round of the Brazilian Serie A, a significant clash for his potential debut.
Preparation and Match Fitness
Despite his recent presentation at Arena MRV last Wednesday (8/19) and exams conducted this Thursday, Fred arrives at Atlético with good match fitness. He participated fully in his former club, Fenerbahçe from Turkey, pre-season. Furthermore, the midfielder played in the first four games of the Turkish team’s 2026/27 season, in matches during the preliminary rounds of the Champions League. His first training session with the squad, led by Argentine coach Eduardo Domínguez, is scheduled for this Friday (8/21) at Cidade do Galo.
Career Trajectory of an Experienced Star
Fred‘s career is marked by stints at major clubs and the Brazilian national team. Although he played in Galo‘s youth system, his rise in professional football began at Internacional, where he quickly stood out with eight goals and six assists in 55 games. Subsequently, the player was transferred to Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine, winning eight titles and tallying 16 goals and nine assists in 155 matches.
He then played for Manchester United in England for five seasons, accumulating 213 appearances, 14 goals, 19 assists, and the English League Cup title. For the Brazilian national team, Fred played in 32 games, won the 2021 Copa América, and was part of the squads for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, playing in five matches in the latter edition of the global tournament.
Fred‘s arrival represents a significant technical boost for Atlético, strengthening the midfield with his experience and quality. The expectation is that the player will bring new dynamism to the team and contribute to the club’s objectives in the remainder of the Campeonato Brasileiro. The possibility of seeing him on the field already against Internacional ignites the fans’ hope for a positive performance and the start of a new phase for Galo.
