Flamengo is turning its attention to forward Luiz Henrique after negotiations for Thiago Almada cooled, aiming to strengthen the squad for the remainder of the season.

The search for a prominent forward has become Flamengo‘s board’s top priority in this transfer window. After facing difficulties in negotiations for midfielder Thiago Almada, the club’s leadership redirected its efforts to secure the arrival of Luiz Henrique, currently with Zenit of Russia.

This move reflects the club’s need to bolster its offensive sector under the technical committee’s guidance. The club’s interest in the player is not new but has gained momentum behind the scenes given the urgency to solidify the squad before the deadline for registering players in continental tournaments.

Player’s History of Interest and His Stance

It’s not the first time the forward’s name has been discussed in the halls of Ninho do Urubu. In previous attempts, when the player was still with Betis of Spain, the deal didn’t advance due to competition and the outcome that brought the player to Brazilian football in 2024.

When asked about Flamengo‘s interest in past interviews, the forward maintained a cautious stance, avoiding creating unnecessary expectations. In March of this year, during an appearance on the GOAT channel, the player stated:

“I can’t talk about it, I can’t talk about it now. I just want to perform my best at my club so that later, together with my family, I can decide my future.”

Club’s Transfer Market Strategy

The board’s stance in this scenario was detailed by director José Boto. According to the representative, Flamengo adopts a policy of operating on multiple fronts simultaneously, which ensures greater room for maneuver.

“The club doesn’t focus on just one player; it plays on multiple boards.”

The current bid is robust, with figures that could reach 35 million euros, including a fixed amount and bonuses for achieved goals. This move demonstrates the club’s financial power in its attempt to address specific squad deficiencies.

Time is Flamengo‘s main adversary right now. With the decisive clash against Cruzeiro, scheduled for next Wednesday (12) in the Libertadores, the club’s leadership is rushing to finalize the bureaucratic procedures. The goal is to ensure that the new reinforcement is eligible to play at the start of the knockout stage of the South American competition.
