Flamengo reaffirmed its firm stance in the transfer market by promptly rejecting an offer from Wolves, from England, for goalkeeper Andrew, keeping the player in the red-and-black squad.

Flamengo continues to demonstrate strength behind the scenes by shielding its squad from European football’s pursuit. Recently, the Rio de Janeiro club’s board was approached by Wolves, who were seeking to sign goalkeeper Andrew. However, Rubro-Negro did not even open room for negotiations, ending the matter before formalizing any figures.

The English club’s move was led by coach Cézar Peixoto, who worked with the 25-year-old goalkeeper during his time at Gil Vicente, in Portugal. The Portuguese club, in fact, was the one that negotiated the player’s transfer to Mais Querido at the beginning of the season. According to Equipe M360, the attempt by the British team—which will compete in the second division—was promptly dismissed by Flamengo‘s football department.

Andrew’s Situation in the Squad

Although he has not yet solidified his starting position, currently held by Rossi, goalkeeper Andrew is part of the team’s long-term plans. The player, who has made only seven appearances in 2026, in addition to friendly matches played in Portugal, has a contract valid until 2029. The initial investment of 1.5 million euros (approximately R$ 9.4 million) reinforces the club’s belief in the goalkeeper’s potential, with Gil Vicente still holding 10% of his economic rights for a future sale.

Resistance to European Interest

The decision to hold onto Andrew reflects Flamengo‘s strategy of not letting go of squad members during the season, especially with starting goalkeeper Rossi facing increased scrutiny from the fans. The rejection of Wolves marks the third European offer thwarted by the club in recent weeks, adding to the rejections made to Aston Villa for full-back Emerson Royal and to Besiktas for center-back Léo Pereira.

As pointed out by Equipe M360, the red-and-black club’s financial health has been fundamental in sustaining these decisions. For the near future, there is growing anticipation among fans for Andrew to get more playing time. The inclusion of the goalkeeper could be a strategic way to alleviate pressure on the starter and provide more competitiveness to the position, ensuring the club remains balanced in its pursuits in the Brazilian Serie A and throughout the season.
