Flamengo has set a strict plan for its football operations department: the board is prioritizing contract renewals for Danilo and Erick Pulgar, while deferring other cases until the end of the season.

The club’s leadership has adopted a strategic approach to squad management for the coming months. With the goal of maintaining full focus on ongoing competitions, the club has established that contract discussions with players who have long-term deals, running through 2027 or beyond, will only resume at the end of the year.

Key players such as Pedro, Léo Pereira, Léo Ortiz, Agustín Rossi, and Gonzalo Plata will have to wait for the green light from the board to initiate formal talks.

This decision follows a precedent set in 2025 with Giorgian De Arrascaeta. At the time, the Uruguayan, whose contract was set to expire at the end of 2026, only had his stay secured in November after a period of internal adjustments.

Now, the club seeks to apply this same pace to avoid rushing payroll decisions and ensure that long-term planning does not interfere with immediate athletic performance.

The Erick Pulgar exception

Although the board prefers caution, Erick Pulgar has emerged as an immediate exception in their planning. The Chilean defensive midfielder has raised concerns behind the scenes due to his accessible release clause, which is around 20 million Brazilian reais.

For the M360 team, the move is precautionary: Flamengo does not want to risk losing an absolute starter for a below-market value.

The player’s increased value in the South American market makes his renewal a measure of asset protection for the club.

Absolute priority: the Danilo case

Veteran Danilo remains the most urgent item on the board’s agenda. With his current contract expiring in December 2026, the full-back has been the subject of inquiries, but his stay depends on his own personal decision regarding his future.

“The player has not yet signaled whether he intends to continue in Brazilian football or if he is considering hanging up his boots at the end of this cycle,” reports the M360 team.

So far, the club has only made official the contract extension for Alex Sandro, another player whose contract was ending this season.

With a tight schedule, fans are awaiting developments on these moves, which promise to shape the squad for the challenges ahead in the coming years.

The success of these negotiations will be vital for maintaining the Rubro-Negro‘s competitiveness in all the competitions they are contesting.
