This decision follows a precedent set in 2025 with Giorgian De Arrascaeta. At the time, the Uruguayan, whose contract was set to expire at the end of 2026, only had his stay secured in November after a period of internal adjustments.

The Erick Pulgar exception
Although the board prefers caution, Erick Pulgar has emerged as an immediate exception in their planning. The Chilean defensive midfielder has raised concerns behind the scenes due to his accessible release clause, which is around 20 million Brazilian reais.
