Flamengo takes advantage of the FIFA Matchday for intense preparation under Jardim’s command.
With the football calendar paused due to the FIFA Matchday, coach Leonardo Jardim is wasting no time and intensifying work at Ninho do Urubu. The Flamengo squad completed its fourth day of activities this Friday (25) focused on tactical and physical improvement, aiming for the next official fixture.
The break, which will run until early October, offers a valuable window for the coach to fine-tune the team. Rubro-negro’s next challenge is scheduled for October 8 against Santos, in a match valid for the Brazilian Serie A.
Important absences in preparation
The FIFA Matchday period, however, also means absences for Jardim. Several players were called up by their national teams: Samuel Lino and Pedro (Brazil), Anthony Valencia (Ecuador), as well as Varela and Arrascaeta (Uruguay). The absence of these athletes forces the coach to adapt training sessions and test alternatives.
What is the “Super FIFA Matchday”?
The term “Super FIFA Matchday” refers to a unified and extended window set to take effect starting in 2026. This new configuration will replace the traditional September and October windows, lasting for 16 days from September 21 to October 6. The main change is allowing national teams to play up to four matches, double the previous limit. The goal is to optimize athlete travel and reduce fatigue, although it directly impacts clubs with longer pauses in their domestic leagues.
