Flamengo could earn millions from FIFA following Arrascaeta’s injury.
Arrascaeta‘s injury while on duty with the Uruguay national team could bring a significant payout to Flamengo‘s coffers.
The club is entitled to financial compensation from FIFA through the Club Protection Programme if the midfielder is sidelined for at least 29 days.
The compensation amount could range from R$ 1.6 million to R$ 3.3 million, depending on the player’s salary.
The Club Protection Programme
This FIFA initiative is designed to protect clubs that release their players for national team duty and suffer severe injuries.
The reimbursement calculation is based on the player’s annual salary.
For Flamengo to claim the benefit, the club must formally submit the compensation request within 28 days of the injury, a deadline that falls on October 26.
Arrascaeta’s Fracture
The incident occurred on September 28 during a match between Uruguay and South Korea in Seoul.
In an isolated play, Arrascaeta slipped and landed on his left wrist, suffering a fracture.
Before the injury, the Uruguayan number 10 had already made his mark with a goal and an assist.
Surgical Procedure and Recovery
The midfielder underwent surgery in Rio de Janeiro to repair the fracture.
The procedure, which involved placing a plate to fix the bone, was deemed successful.
Arrascaeta is expected to return to action in about six to eight weeks, which would rule him out of major fixtures, including the Copa Libertadores semifinals.
Despite the prognosis, there is hope that the player could return ahead of schedule.
Flamengo’s Upcoming Challenges
While Arrascaeta recovers, Flamengo is preparing to face Santos this Thursday (08) in the Brazilian Serie A.
The match will be broadcast on Premiere.
The club described the procedure:
The procedure as successful.
The absence of a key player like Arrascaeta presents a challenge, but potential FIFA compensation could help soften the economic impact of the injury.
The team coached by Tite remains focused on its goals for the season, striving to maintain strong performance even without its main playmaker.
