Flamengo’s board vetoes Everton Cebolinha’s transfer to Vasco, citing fierce rivalry and friction between club presidents.

The Flamengo board has made a firm decision to block the potential transfer of forward Everton Cebolinha to Vasco.

Vasco’s interest in the player, whose contract with the Rubro-Negro expires in December, was communicated but hit an insurmountable barrier due to the intense rivalry between the Rio de Janeiro clubs.

Although Flamengo had signaled that they would release the player for negotiations—even offering to cover part of his salary—the board summarily vetoed any possibility of an agreement with their rival.

Rivalry and presidential friction influence the decision

The refusal to negotiate with Vasco was intensified by recent tensions between the club presidents, Luiz Eduardo Baptista (Flamengo) and Pedrinho (Vasco).

This conflictual relationship appears to have been a deciding factor for the Flamengo leadership, which chose not to strengthen a direct opponent.

Other clubs in the race

While Vasco finds the doors closed, other clubs continue to monitor Everton Cebolinha‘s situation.

Botafogo has already submitted a formal proposal, offering a two-year contract with a monthly salary of R$ 1.2 million, including signing bonuses spread across the deal.

Santos has also expressed interest, making inquiries to understand the costs involved in the operation.

Player’s priority is playing abroad

Despite offers in the domestic transfer market, the 30-year-old forward has made moving to an international club his priority.

After four years wearing the Flamengo jersey, Everton Cebolinha has expressed his desire to leave Rio de Janeiro.

Tight deadline and Brazilian Serie A restrictions

Time is a crucial factor in determining Everton Cebolinha‘s future.

The player has already appeared in 12 matches for Flamengo in the Brazilian Serie A.

If he steps onto the pitch for one more game for the Rio-based team in the competition, he will be ineligible to play for any other club in the Serie A this season.

A resolution regarding the player’s destination is expected within the coming hours.

Flamengo‘s decision to veto Everton Cebolinha‘s move to Vasco reinforces the intensity of the rivalry in Brazilian football and adds another chapter to the battle for reinforcements between the Rio clubs.

The forward’s future now seems to lean towards a farewell to Rio de Janeiro or staying until the end of his contract, depending on offers from abroad.
