The Flamengo-PI squad came close to walking out on the eve of the Campeonato Piauiense Serie B semifinals.
A training strike was considered by the players on Tuesday afternoon as a protest against delayed salary payments.
However, the board guaranteed the payment of the outstanding amounts by the end of the day,
allowing the team to resume preparation for their matchup against Comercial-PI.
Demands and Meeting at the Training Center
Tension filled the Reinaldo Ferreira Training Center in Teresina
when the players expressed their dissatisfaction.
The squad demanded full payment from the board as agreed upon for the competition.
A meeting with board representatives and the coaching staff was held,
lasting approximately 20 minutes.
In the end, the decision was made to continue training,
averting the risk of an immediate strike.
Board Guarantees
Head coach Flávio Araújo confirmed that the board assured full payment of the overdue amounts by the end of Tuesday.
The manager stated:
The board agreed to pay the remainder of the package. We agreed on a package deal, and the board committed to paying before the match against Picos, but it wasn’t done.
The coach added:
Upon returning yesterday (Monday), the players have been seeking a solution with the board, and executive Márcio Ferreira is mediating this conversation.
The manager concluded:
As of this morning, nothing had been settled, but this afternoon the board pledged to make the payment after this training session.
Understanding the Financial Dispute
The salary agreement between Flamengo-PI and its players called for payment in a package structure.
The first half was paid on time, but the second installment was delayed.
The board had promised to settle the players’ financial situation before the match against Picos last weekend, which did not happen.
This communication breakdown and failure to fulfill the agreement led the squad to press their demands upon returning to practice on Monday.
Preparation for the Semifinal
With the promise of financial settlement, the Flamengo-PI squad resumed training at the Reinaldo Ferreira Training Center.
The team will wrap up preparation for the first leg of the semifinal against Comercial-PI,
