Estudiantes‘ preparation for the Copa Libertadores semifinal suffered a dramatic setback in their last match. During the Supercopa Internacional final, which they lost 3-1 to Rosario Central, the Argentine club saw three important players leave the field injured, raising a red flag for the decisive clash against Flamengo, scheduled for next month.
The first blow came just 18 minutes into the first half when midfielder Gabriel Neves took a hard fall and had to be taken directly to the hospital. Tests confirmed a fracture in the Uruguayan’s left wrist, and he is expected to be sidelined for about three months, making his participation in the continental competition completely out of the question.
New Absences and Search for Reinforcements
The squad’s physical situation worsened when new signing Jalil Elías, who replaced Gabriel Neves, also felt muscle pain and left the field. The midfielder is suspected of having a left thigh injury and is now doubtful for the first leg match.
