Del Valle striker challenges Flamengo and believes in a historic comeback in the Libertadores.

Flamengo secured an important 2-0 victory over Independiente del Valle in Quito, in the first leg of the Libertadores quarterfinals. However, Ecuadorian forward Djorkaeff Reasco expressed confidence in his team’s ability to overturn the deficit. Despite being at a disadvantage, Reasco downplayed the result and projected qualification for the semifinals at the Maracanã.

Confidence in a Comeback at the Maracanã

Speaking to the press after the match, Reasco stated that the tie is far from decided. “In my opinion, everything is still open. We also have a great team, so we’re going with the same determination to seek this victory. I feel that the altitude issue shouldn’t change anything,” declared the striker. He also highlighted his team’s long and intense season but assured that the squad is in good form to achieve a positive result.

The Match and the Substitution

Djorkaeff Reasco entered the field in the second half, replacing Carlos González, who felt muscular discomfort. Before his entry, González himself had a clear opportunity, hitting the post of Flamengo’s goal, which was the most dangerous play for the Ecuadorian team in the first half.

Flamengo’s Home Record

Despite the optimism expressed by Reasco, Flamengo’s recent home record is a factor to consider. The Rio de Janeiro team has only suffered two defeats at home this current season, accumulating 16 wins and four draws at the Maracanã. This favorable record reinforces Flamengo fans’ confidence for the decisive match.

Upcoming Commitments

The return leg between Flamengo and Independiente del Valle is scheduled for next Thursday (17), at 9:30 PM (Brasília time), at the Maracanã. A defeat by up to one goal will be enough for Flamengo to advance to the Libertadores semifinals. Before that, Mengão turns its attention to the Brazilian Serie A, facing Corinthians this Sunday (13), also at the Maracanã, in a match valid for the 27th round.

Djorkaeff Reasco’s statement adds an extra layer of intensity to the return leg, potentially serving as additional motivation for Flamengo in front of its home crowd. The stage is set for an electrifying match in Rio de Janeiro, where Independiente del Valle will attempt to surprise the current continental champion.
