CONMEBOL has appointed Uruguayan Andrés Matonte, a referee with World Cup and Club World Cup experience, to oversee the decisive Libertadores matchup between Flamengo and Independiente del Valle.

CONMEBOL has designated the experienced Uruguayan official Andrés Matonte to take charge of the match, which kicks off this Thursday (17) at 9:30 PM (Brasília time) at the Maracanã.
The selection of the 38-year-old Matonte, who boasts a notable international resume, underscores the magnitude of the encounter. He will be tasked with ensuring fairness in a game that will determine one of the semifinalists of South America‘s premier club competition.
His presence adds a layer of anticipation, given his history of officiating on the world’s biggest stages.
High-Level Officiating for the Decider

Matonte‘s officiating style is already familiar to both Flamengo and Independiente del Valle. The Uruguayan oversaw the 2023 Recopa Sudamericana final.
On that occasion, Flamengo won 1-0 in regulation time but ultimately lost the title to the Ecuadorian side in a penalty shootout.
Beyond that high-stakes duel, the referee has been in charge of other Flamengo victories in the Libertadores, such as a 4-0 win against Bolívar in 2024 and a 4-1 victory over Independiente Medellín in 2026.
As for Del Valle, Matonte officiated their 1-0 loss to Boca Juniors in the 2024 Copa Sudamericana.
