The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has set a date for the postponed match between Flamengo and Mirassol, a game that was pending from the fourth round of the Brazilian Serie A. The match is expected to take place on September 2nd, a Wednesday.
The decision comes as a solution to fill a gap in the calendar. With the quarterfinals of the Copa do Brasil occupying the next two weeks, and both clubs already eliminated from that competition, the CBF sees this window as an opportunity to reschedule the delayed game.
Both Flamengo and Mirassol have been informed of the possibility. Official confirmation of the new date should appear soon on the Brazilian Serie A schedule. Furthermore, security authorities have approved the match to be held, according to information obtained by the portal GE.
Postponement and Reasons
Originally, the match was scheduled for February 25th at the Maracanã Stadium. However, Flamengo’s schedule was impacted by their participation in the Recopa Sudamericana. At that time, the Rio de Janeiro club faced Lanús from Argentina, who ultimately won the title after a 4-2 aggregate victory.
Copa do Brasil Campaigns
Flamengo concluded their participation in the Copa do Brasil in the fifth round, being eliminated by Vitória. After winning the first leg 2-1, the team lost the second leg 2-0 at Barradão stadium.
Mirassol also began their journey in the fifth round, defeating Red Bull Bragantino 3-2. However, in the Round of 16, the São Paulo club was eliminated by Grêmio, following a draw in the first leg and a 1-0 loss in the return match.
Flamengo’s Next Steps
While awaiting confirmation of the date for the match against Mirassol, Flamengo is preparing for its next commitment in the Brazilian Championship. The team will face Cruzeiro on Saturday (22nd), for the 24th round, at the Mineirão stadium in Belo Horizonte. The game is scheduled to kick off at 8:30 PM (Brasília time) and will be broadcast by Prime Video.
