Flamengo is negotiating a contract extension with Pulgar until 2028 after a decisive performance.
Flamengo has taken significant steps towards retaining Erick Pulgar. The midfielder, a crucial player in the club’s recent qualification for the Libertadores quarterfinals against Cruzeiro, is in advanced negotiations to extend his contract.
The club’s board has presented a new proposal aimed at extending the Chilean player’s contract until the end of 2028, including a salary increase, with the goal of finalizing the agreement this week.
Pulgar shines and celebrates qualification
After being one of the key figures in the 2-1 victory over Cruzeiro, which secured their spot in the Libertadores, Pulgar used his social media to express his satisfaction.
In an Instagram post, the player highlighted the team’s collective strength and the fans’ support:
Together we are stronger. Yesterday we took another step in this Libertadores. A sold-out stadium, fans who pushed from the first minute, and a team that gave everything on the field. This qualification is also yours. Thank you for believing, for supporting us, and for making us feel your strength in every play. We are in the quarterfinals and we’re going for more. All together.
Motivation for renewal
Flamengo‘s urgency in securing Pulgar‘s stay is intensified by the player’s low release clause, which has dropped to approximately R$ 23 million. This condition could attract interest from foreign clubs.
The renewal proposal, which had previously been extended to 2027 in March 2025, now seeks a longer and more secure contract for the Rio de Janeiro-based club.
Pulgar’s stats and impact at Flamengo
Since his arrival in July 2022 from Fiorentina, Pulgar has established himself as a cornerstone in Flamengo‘s midfield.
The midfielder has played 163 games, scoring six goals and providing nine assists, in addition to an impressive record including titles such as two Copa do Brasils, two Libertadores, one Brasileirão, one Supercopa do Brasil, and three Campeonato Cariocas.
Future outlook
Journalist Davi Esteves, from Coluna do Fla, emphasizes the importance of keeping Pulgar on the roster:
Flamengo needs to renew with Erick Pulgar and remove that low release clause from the Chilean’s contract. Last Wednesday (19th), the midfielder showed why he is so important to Leonardo Jardim’s system, as he dominated the midfield in the game against Cruzeiro. Despite this, the habit of opening negotiations with players just a few years after a contract extension cannot become a custom for Fla.
With focus on the upcoming match against Cruzeiro in the Brazilian Championship on Saturday (22nd), Flamengo demonstrates its strategy of maintaining a solid core and valuing its standout athletes.
A positive resolution to the negotiation with Pulgar will be another chapter in the Rubro-Negro‘s season, as they continue to compete on all fronts.
